Are iZEV federal EV rebates available for 2025 in Canada?

As of June 12, 2025, the federal iZEV (Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles) program in Canada has officially been paused, with no new rebates available for eligible zero-emission vehicle purchases or leases made on or after this date. This critical development stems from the program's allocated funding being fully committed, reflecting the significant success and uptake of EVs across the country since the program's inception. For Canadian consumers, this means a substantial change in the financial landscape of EV acquisition, as the direct federal incentive that previously reduced the upfront cost by up to $5,000 for qualifying vehicles is no longer accessible.

This shift places a heightened emphasis on provincial incentive programs, which vary considerably in scope and availability across Canada. Provinces like British Columbia (Go Electric Program) and Quebec (Roulez vert program) continue to offer their own robust rebates, which can still significantly reduce the purchase price of an EV. However, consumers in provinces without such strong provincial support will now face the full MSRP of eligible EVs, potentially impacting affordability and slowing the pace of EV adoption in those regions. This situation underscores the importance for prospective buyers to thoroughly research provincial and municipal incentives specific to their location and to consider the total cost of ownership without the federal subsidy. While there is always a possibility of new federal initiatives being introduced in the future to support Canada's climate goals and EV transition, no such programs have been announced to replace iZEV as of this date, making careful financial planning paramount for anyone considering an EV purchase in the latter half of 2025 and beyond.
